José Marín Plazuelo

José Marín Plazuelo

The nephew of master guitar maker Antonio Marín Montero, he joined his uncle's workshop in 1974, where he was taught the secrets of the art. Despite building guitars under his own signature and label, he continued working alongside his uncle and master in the workshop on the "Cuesta del Caidero" in Granada, sharing their bench, time, and experiences.

José Marín Plazuelo was born in Granada on June 13, 1960. The nephew of Antonio Marín Montero, he joined his workshop in 1974, at just 14 years old, where he trained alongside José González López. His uncle continually praises his nephew's skill since his beginnings. For several years, he has been making guitars in the traditional way, following the techniques of his mentor Antonio Marín, one of the most prestigious luthiers on the scene. Although he has signed his works with his own name for years, he continues to share the bench, time, and experience with his uncle and predecessor. Today, he has become an accomplished luthier, and his classical guitars are largely reminiscent of his mentor's. However, his flamenco guitars resemble the model followed by the Catalan Francisco Simplicio (1874–1932) but have smaller bodies than the Torres guitar, his uncle Antonio Marín's mentor.
